Dear resident
My huge thanks to everyone who has campaigned with me to save the Post Office branch in King’s Road, Chelsea, including the more than 1,400 residents who signed my petition.
I’m delighted that Post Office management has today confirmed to me that the services offered by the branch on the King’s Road will continue under a new franchise model.
This is reassuring news for our community and residents, especially the most vulnerable, who rely on these services.
When the branch was threatened with closure, I got together with residents to campaign for it to stay open and met ministers and senior leadership at the Post Office to make the case.
Our message was heard loud and clear.
The Post Office is now talking to potential franchisees and expects to consult with the community and staff on the new offer in the second half of May.
I’ll be pressing ministers and Post Office management to keep the King’s Road branch, when franchised, in the same location as now or very close by, and for the services to be at least as good as now.
Ideally, I’d like to see it providing even fuller services along the lines of the branch in the North End Road in Fulham, which I also campaigned successfully with residents to save. When this became a franchise, it chose to open seven days a week from 7am to 9pm.
As always, I’ll keep you informed.
I’m honoured to be working alongside you to keep making our community a great place to live.
Best wishes
Ben Coleman
PS I’m delighted the Post Office Minister confirmed to me in Parliament today that he would continue to work with me to support the King’s Road branch. See here.
